About: I started playing aged 10, and joined Netteswell School Band, playing the flugel horn. I wanted to play the tenor horn, but was told that the band didn't need a tenor horn, but needed a flugel horn player, so that's what I would play! I then joined Netteswell Youth Band, still playing the flugel. I played with the band until 1981, when I left to go to teacher training college. I returned to Harlow after completing my training, but didn't return straight away to a brass band. However, a few years later, I was lured back, by Elaine trying to get me along. I joined Bishops Stortford band before joining Harlow Band in 1995. I did get to play tenor horn during that time, but eventually moved to soprano cornet.
I've enjoyed playing in a brass band and still enjoy it and look forward to our weekly practice.
